The Trust and Faith we have come from and through Christ our Lord……

On April 30th, 2010 during my quiet time with the Lord and His Word, He gave me understanding from where all our Faith and Trust towards God comes from.  It is from Himself, and nothing of ourselves.  For it is in Him where ALL of our sufficiency is from:

How the Characteristics of Grace Appear

And we have such trust through Christ toward God. Not that we are sufficient of ourselves to think of anything as being from ourselves, but our sufficiency is from God, who also made us sufficient as ministers of the new covenant.  (2Co_ 3:4-6)

As I read this in today’s devotional, I was caught by the first nine words; “And we have such trust through Christ toward God”. These words truly stuck out, “such trust through Christ”, that this ‘trust’ and ‘Faith’ is all through Christ, since we be hid in Christ Jesus, then all His Faith and Trust in God, will become ours, or is ours more and more as we grow in measure Grace to Grace.  As He brings us into a more ‘mature’ relationship, our Faith in God grows as well as our Trust for all this comes from Jesus Christ himself. “To be one, as we are one”.

Eph_4:7  But unto every one of us is given grace according to the measure of the gift of Christ.

That is why ‘nothing’ comes from within ourselves, it is all a gift of grace from God the Father because of Jesus Christ and His Faith and Trust towards God His Father.  So that explains why “our sufficiency is from God” because Christ’s sufficiency came from His Father, God himself, through the work of the Holy Spirit.  Did not Jesus say, “I do nothing of myself”?

Joh 8:28  Then said Jesus unto them, When ye have lifted up the Son of man, then shall ye know that I am he, and that I do nothing of myself; but as my Father hath taught me, I speak these things.

Everything Jesus did was according to God’s will, for He said, “I came not to do my will”;

Joh 5:30  I can of mine own self do nothing: as I hear, I judge: and my judgment is just; because I seek not mine own will, but the will of the Father which hath sent me.

So that is why all of our sufficiency comes from God through Jesus Christ, for we are “hid in Christ”.  Everything that was found in Christ towards His relationship to God the Father and His Will is to be ours also, if we be truly born of God’s spirit. Born from above of incorruptible seed, not from the fleshly seed of self-works, tradition or religiousness.  It is all by Faith in Him and His Promises towards us for His purposes.

1Pe_1:23  Being born again, not of corruptible seed, but of incorruptible, by the word of God, which liveth and abideth for ever.

2Pe_3:18  But grow in grace, and in the knowledge of our Lord and Saviour Jesus Christ. To him be glory both now and for ever. Amen.

May the Lord bless this to each and everyone of you according to the Lord’s will and purpose.

In His Eternal Love……….

This is so true, yet it takes such a long time to get it. We can claim nothing in our own strength, it is a shock to the human ego to realize we had nothing to do with our salvation, that even “trust” is given by GOD.

Yes, it’s been steadily through the many years that the Lord has been confirming this to my heart, to all our hearts that are born of Him. And it does relate to our Salvation as well, but this also speaks to the on going growing pains we experience with every new battle that arises in our life, and it always will point us to “Trust” in Him more, deeper and deeper, wider and wider, higher and higher as we are drawn to walk closer with Him, to grow into the Fullness He has for each and everyone of us in whatever gifts He has given to us to serve Him and His living body, His Bride, His Church more. To God be the Glory for all the Great things He has done and will continue doing in all of our lives. The Lord bless you dear sister in Jesus. In His Eternal Love……

A very good and edifying post, dear Brother.

And please allow me to add my mite to this thought –

All men have some kind of faith or they could possibly live here on earth. Even an insignificant act as sitting on a chair requires faith! You sit because you have the faith that the chair will hold you. When your friend offers you a drink you drink because you have the faith that it is safe, and so on. But the faith which saves a man is something different altogether! It is called the ‘Faith of God’s elect’! [Titus 1:1] And the Apostle says that “All men have not (this) faith”! [2Thes 3:2].

The Bible speaks of this faith as something which belongs to Christ, for it speaks of “the faith of Christ” “Knowing that a man is not justified by the works of the law, but by the FAITH OF JESUS CHRIST, even we have believed in Jesus Christ, that we might be justified by the FAITH OF CHRIST, and not by the works of the law: for by the works of the law shall no flesh be justified”! [Gal 2:16]

This saving faith is God’s property and is given as a gift to His chosen ones! And Jesus is spoken of as the AUTHOR and the FINISHER of this faith! [Heb 12:2] “Now faith “cometh by hearing, and hearing by the word of God”. [Rom 10:17] Notice that faith ‘cometh’ from somewhere. It is not an inherent product of fallen nature! So WHERE does it come from? It comes from above! “A man can receive nothing, except it be given him from Heaven”! [John 3:27] And again, “Every good gift and every perfect gift is from ABOVE, and cometh down from the Father of lights”! [James 1:17]

But here is the question to ask – “If faith ‘cometh’ by hearing the word of God, why does it not come to ALL who hear it”?

Because all refuse to believe, is the usual answer given! But that is only one side of the truth! Yes ALL refuse to believe, but the fact remains that some do! In what way are these who believe different from those who do not? The answer is found in Paul’s rhetorical question – “For WHO maketh thee to differ from another? and what hast thou that thou didst not RECEIVE? Now if thou didst receive it, why dost thou glory, as if thou hadst not received it”? [1Cor 4:7]

The reason why faith does not come to the majority is because, to the majority the Word of God comes in WORD ONLY! It is not accompanied by power, and the Holy Spirit and much assurance! Hear what the Apostle wrote to the Thessalonians – “Knowing, brethren beloved, your election of God. For our gospel came not unto you in WORD ONLY, but also in POWER, and in the HOLY GHOST, and in much ASSURANCE”! [1Thes 1:4,5]

How did the apostle know that the Thessalonian Christians were ‘elected’ by God to salvation? Why, by this- that when he initially preached to them, the word of God came not just as a dead word from the Bible, but the Word was accompanied by power, the Holy Ghost and much assurance!

Now this is the way it is through all the ages! To God’s chosen it is GIVEN to know the mysteries of the Kingdom of God by the gift of faith, but to the rest IT IS NOT GIVEN! [Matt 13:11]

God is absolutely sovereign and does not owe fallen man ANYTHING! He can give to one what He withholds from many and none can say unto Him “what doest Thou”?! So He has mercy on whom He will and whom He will He hardens! [Rom 9:18]

So ultimately, saving faith, repentance and perseverance which are are all required for salvation are the gift of God, not of works lest any man should boast! Salvation is “not of him that willeth, nor of him that runneth, but of God who showeth MERCY! [Rom 9:16]!

And all the praise and glory to God alone! Amen!

I give a BIG RESOUNDING AMEN!!!!!!!! I do agree with everything you have stated and do affirm that is what God’s Word teaches!
And when reading the Book of Acts, one will see they, (the Apostles) were always moved by the Holy Spirit to speak! They could do nothing but speak when moved by the Spirit of the Living God. I feel to many go out on the street preaching the word, but there is no Holy Spirit in it!
Thank you for the encouragement, the Lord bless you. And it’s good to have you back in circulation!
